At Portus Meridiem, we believe Art is important because it helps you to better understand yourself and the world around you. Art teaches you to look and express yourself in a different way. This gives you a broader perspective on the world and helps you discover what something means to you.
In Art, you not only learn about materials, techniques, and art history, but you also develop important skills. Think of creative thinking, collaboration, planning, and learning to reflect on your work. This helps you grow in self-confidence and better understand what you stand for.
In the lower years, we work with continuous learning pathways. This means that each year you build on what you have already learned. We connect to themes that fit your world. You are challenged to work independently, make your own choices in your learning process, and collaborate with others.
In the lower years, you learn step by step. Each year, you continue with what you have already learned. We work with themes that match your life and interests. You learn to make your own choices, work independently, and collaborate well with others.
For the subject Expression, class 3 havo delved into the world of travel. After conducting research with mind maps and mood boards about what travel means to them – and with which material they prefer to express it – these personal artworks were created.
Personalized learning is central: each student follows their own creative path, while the teacher guides as a coach.
For the subject CKV, 4th-year havo students are designing a new throne.
The students are fully engaged in a major art research project in which design-based learning is central. After conducting literature and material research, they gradually determine the requirements for their ideal throne for King Willem-Alexander.
Presentation, evaluation, creativity, research, and craftsmanship all come together.
